Leather is an animal skin or hide that has been defoliated and tanned (preserved). Leather is mechanically split into two thinner pieces. The exterior piece is referred to as Grain leather. It has a smooth texture on one side and a rough texture on the other. The remaining hide is Split leather. Split leather is the interior of the skin and it has a rough texture on both sides. Grain leather is the most desirable portion of the hide as it is soft, smooth and durable. Split leather is the most common leather used for glove production. Split leather is relatively economical and yet very durable. The most widely used leathers for hand protection are Cowhide, Pigskin, Goatskin, Sheepskin and Deerskin. All of these leathers possess varying degrees of abrasion resistance, comfort and dexterity.
Our experience lies in the production of premium Goatskin and Sheepskin gloves. Our factories are ideally located for the procurement of these leathers as most of the world’s Goatskin and Sheepskin hides originate in East Africa and Pakistan. Goatskin and Sheepskin leathers are incredibly soft due to their high Lanolin (natural oil) content and they are generally thinner than other types of leather. Above all, Goatskin and Sheepskin leathers have better tensile strength and abrasion resistance than other leathers. These attributes make Goatskin and Sheepskin gloves durable, comfortable and well suited for applications requiring extra dexterity and sense of touch.
